Write for Merced County Events
Site Information
Local neighbors, writers, and people with firsthand knowledge of their communities can pitch stories that help Merced County readers understand the people and places around them.

Who can contribute?
You do not need to send a finished article to get started. Begin with a short story pitch, a clear angle, and why the subject matters to people here.
Topics we consider
- Local Events
- Food & Restaurants
- Things To Do
- Youth Sports
- Local Business Spotlights
- Yosemite & Mariposa
How to send a pitch
- Open the writer form. Use the Submit a story pitch link to start an inquiry for the editorial team.
- Add your contact details and topic. Provide your name and email, then choose at least one topic from the list. A phone number is optional.
- Describe your angle. In the pitch field, briefly explain the story you have in mind, your angle, and why it matters locally. Keep the pitch within the form’s 3,000-character limit; it is not the finished article.
- Share useful links if you have them. Links to writing samples or credited photos are optional. Share links only; you do not need to send a finished story.
What makes a useful article?
A finished article is typically 500–1,200 words, separate from the short pitch you send first. Strong pieces use original reporting, include useful local details, and check names, dates, and other facts before publication.
Use original photos or photos you have permission to share, and provide a clear credit for each image. If you have a relevant example, share its link in the optional links field.
Editorial review
The form sends an inquiry for editorial review. Sending a pitch does not publish a story automatically.
